Dan the Man: An Honest Review, Part 2

Hello again world! I would like to continue my honest review of Dan the Man, while waiting for Dan the Man 2 to release.

Dan the Man is full of secrets, including secret areas and secret items. Every secret area is unique in their own way. From timing your movement to a quick little optional fight, the secret areas are a great way to get weapons, food or more coins.

The unfortunate problem I have with some of these secret areas is that some require you to think of every way you can traverse in an area. You might need to jump in that one specific spot, find a differently marked wall, or even going to the left at the start of the stage. In all of Dan the Man, only two secret areas require the player to go left at the start of the stage, once in 8-1-2, and another one in Fright Zone. However, the secret areas provide weapons such as throwing knives, an RPG, and even a carlgustav. All weapons start off incredibly weak, but upgrading them to ultimate makes them extremely overpowered and overkill for any enemy in the game.

The first ever weapon you encounter are the shurikens. Upgrading them to ultimate electrifies them, making any enemy stunned for a brief moment of time. Very useful near the end game with shielded enemies or commandos, upgraded and deadlier versions of brutes. You can carry 40 shurikens when it is upgraded to ultimate. The second weapon, the modern rifle, is the best weapon in the game. Upgrading it to ultimate allows for bullets to pierce through enemies, if the bullet is not a critical hit. It is always useful and reliable with its fast fire rate and its maximum ammo being 50. The third weapon you are introduced to is the RPG7. It is the first weapon with an explosive radius, and upgrading it to ultimate makes it reload faster than normal. It’s maximum ammo is 16. You are introduced to throwing knives as the fourth weapon. Upgrading them to ultimate sets the blades of the knives on fire, useful for stopping enemies such as commandos. Like the shurikens, you can carry 40 knives when upgraded to ultimate. Fifth, you have an AK rifle. By default, it is an AK-47. Upgrading it to ultimate makes the shells explosive. You can carry 60 bullets with one AK rifle. Finally, you have the carlgustav. The carlgustav is the slowest, but it deals the most amount of damage per hit reliably. Upgrading it to ultimate makes the radius of the explosion increase by 50%. However, due to the slow nature of the carlgustav, I generally do not use it much.

Overall, the modern rifle is the best weapon in the game, and the carlgustav, while not being the worst, is the slowest and the least used.

To be continued, again 😛
